Shared AI instructions (vault-wide rules)

In Settings → AI → "Edit AI instructions" you can write rules passed to every chat in this vault.

Put tone, background knowledge, policies to follow, and phrasings to avoid here so they apply to all chats without repeating them each time.

The first-run onboarding also has a step for these instructions; what you write there is saved to the same note and can be edited later.

If a specific request conflicts with the shared instructions, the AI checks with you.

AI instructions that came from someone else’s vault or another device (including changes that arrived by sync) aren’t sent to the AI until you check them on this device. If a notice appears above the chat, open Settings → AI, check the text, and click “Use these instructions.” Instructions you edit and save on this device are used right away.
